My understanding is, they just stay in outpatient status. You don't get paid for the time, it is included in payment for procedure, unless they have a complication that needs to be made observation. Then the complication has to be well documented. We have this same issue at our facility, and we are developing defined "extended recovery" beds, so they don't have to go to the floor and expend a lot of expense with the time nursing has to chart on them like they are an admission, when they are not.
