Unfortunate and flawed – (hope you found something else suitable)? I doubt the person that made the decision even knew (knows) the RHIA credential exists, nor do they have any idea precisely why the credential is so will-suited for CDI.
It is very difficult to find any employer that truly values a person as a professional and an individual. I consider myself very fortunate in that regard.
Part of the problem, IMO, is that the skills, education, experience, and credentials of people labeling themselves as ‘coders’ is varied. I listed RN, RHIA, RHIT, as some of the requirements for one of our jobs, also stating ‘coding experience’ desired, and I received a bevy of applications from people with HTMI, Cobol, and Fortran ‘coding’ experience.
Credentialed coders with a formal education seem to be a pretty small pool.
