CDI Data and Reporting
When reading the results of the latest weekly survey on the ACDIS website I was surprised at the high number of respondents who stated that they had little involvement in the data reporting and/or interpretation process.
Here are the current responses:
- Our department is very involved in developing and interpreting CDI data – 41%
- We have full access to the reports and interpret the data, but they are developed elsewhere – 18%
- We see the reports but are not involved in their development or data interpretation – 23%
- Our hospital reports this data but we do not have the opportunity to see it – 9%
- Our hospital does not track CDI data – 4%
- I am unsure if CDI data reports exist – 5%
When you add up the percentage of CDI teams with none-to-minimal involvement in the reporting or interpreting process, the percentage is 41%! This groups includes everyone who responded as other than having full access to reports and also those who identified themselves as being involved in interpreting the data.
Does this surprise anyone else? How do CDI teams measure success (or lack of) if they never see the data? If the team is not interpreting the data, how do they identify opportunities?
How do you feel about these findings? Surprised, or about what you'd expect? Do you feel that CDS should take a more active role in becoming involved in the reporting process?
If you are involved with the data/reporting process, do you feel that participation in the process has helped your program?
