time limit on ECHOs for CHF diagnosis

Happy Friday Everyone!

I have a question that has come up in our CHF queries. What are the time parameters that you put on using ECHOs for clarifying type of CHF? Current admission only? One month? Six months? I the physician mentions "most recent EF of 20%" and a correlating document cannot be found, can this statement be used in the query? It's friday and my brain cells are on overload...

Thanks,

  • I think it is appropriate to use an EF from an old ECHO if it is being referenced by the provider. If the provider is referencing it, we can use it. I would not dig through the EMR to old encounters to find an old ECHO that is not mentioned in this encounter.
