JATA

Hi Everyone, We are beginning the New Year with JA Thomas. We have a mature CDI program which has managed to have consultants come in every few years to sell us new software to manage our process. Presently we use CDIS from 3M which we have used for the last few years. Prior to that we used PWCs program. Our new VP of finance has used JATA in the past and believes we will recoup beaucoup dollars in the process. Can anyone provide me feedback regarding working with JATA and your outcomes? I am looking forward to upgrading our current program and gaining new insight, however my team has been through Huron, Navigant, 3 M, PWC and E&Y over the past 12 years as the hospital has gone through major re-structuring etc. I say bring it but my staff is a little tired of consultants at this point. Happy New Year!

  • It 'sounds' as if your program has had consulting service from all of the major players in the industry; personally, I would think it doubtful that a successful and mature CDI program would be able to recoup beaucoup dollars simply by using a different consultant? Nothing against consultants as I was a consulting mgr for about a decade - but, if you are using the AHIMA/ACDIS Best Practice, staff is trained (credentialed), queries are in place, and you have been providing education, it would not seem significant new funds would be found with any new consultants.

  • We have been with JATA since our program inception in 2005. We have had huge success with them. Its hard to speak to how it compares to other programs when I have only seen demos of other programs. I do know that its not really having the JATA consultants that benefit us as much as it is their software. They have excellent strategies for helping the CDI to think outside the box and help compose queries for the "high hanging fruit." Our facility has joined with UPMC so we will be going to an all electronic medical record in April that will trigger "alerts" on possible opportunities based on pre-programed clinical indicators. Not sure how one would preprogram words to trigger a functional quadriplegia, a psychogenic angina, late effects of CVA or the not so obvious encephalopathies. Despite us having a well established program, we continue to "recoup beaucoup" dollars and maintain a CMI above our peer group. They also provide an excellent tracking program with the ability to run reports on just about anything you could possible imagine. I use it to give our hospitalists "report cards" and keep track of our most non-compliant physicians to give to our Medical Director for review. They also include extensive ICD-10 training modules. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with JATA.
  • Thank you! I am not trying to say we can't improve in some ways, however three out of five of us are credentialed, we go to local chapter meetings as well as the ACDIS conference and so on and so on. We do internal audits look at PEPPER and analyze focused areas etc. I worry that what they have promised in financial recoupment will not happen. I don't want to end up like the NFL coaches that were not on winning teams this year. Thanks

  • LOL... I think you will be very happy with them. Again, it's not the consultants necessarily, it's the amazing software and continuing education they provide.

What do your "report cards" consist of?

If you are currently using 3M CDIS, will you be purchasing the JATA software? Does this software come with their consulting engagements? Just wondering since the other contributor (unknown name:)) mentions that this is the plus of utilizing JATA, along with education.

    Thanks,

I have used JATA for 5 years and I agree completely. I think you and your team will be very happy with this change.

  • I give our lead hospitalist a list of each of his physicians with their average LOS, # of admissions, # of clarifications we asked, their response rate, agreement rate, individual CMI's (before and after our program intervention) with the ability to drill down much further. We use this information to monitor each docs compliance with our program and provide education to individual docs when needed.

  • I guess I am the unknown contributor..lol. Sorry about that...

  • I agree 100% with the writer of the note below. We have also been with JATA since 2005. We continue to learn with each case we review/code. As below, their software, ICD-10 training products, etc., are much more important to us than the Consultants themselves. We have seven RN CDS's, six of which have their CCDS, one has CCS and we do attend ACDIS & AHIMA conferences as well.

  • We purchase the use of the software for a year, and then add-on ($$) any physician or Consultant visits that we want for the year. We can have zero visits or one every month if we want. We currently schedule two Consultant visits and one physician visit per year.

JATA is now Nuance. We used JA Thomas for 10 years and our program was stagnant. We went with Chartwise in April and have seen the growth we needed.

We are purchasing the software from JATA as we were told by 3M that they do not play well together as they are competitors. We will still utilize 3M encoder for coding. Sharon we reached out to you over a year ago to help us with our query process in EPIC. We have had great success using the shared note in the chart, thank you! I am hoping that the software product from JATA simplifies our process as I find 3M CDIS to be cumbersome at times on many different levels.

  • We have 3M encoder and are looking at getting 3M360, anybody have any input about that? I know it involves a lot of hardware costs on top of the product. Is JATA similar?

    Happy New Year to all.
