We need a Clinical Documentation Specialist Week

We have our specialty, our certification, our national society...now we need a week to bring about more awareness of our professional and the importance it plays.

Amen to that. Perhaps something in the late fall or summer since most nursing and hospital week fall in the spring and case management week is in the fall.

  • Hi guys, we have just begun work on this, actually (only as far as putting together a committee). I'd love to hear your thoughts on when it should fall, what we could offer for resources to help spread the word, etc.

    Thanks,

  • I agree with Robert, it should be a different time than nurses or hospital week. Case Mgmt week is in October and I think it should not be near that either, lest we lose our individuality.

August, September or Maybe early in the year February or March??

A thought may be to have flyers or posters that could be downloaded and printed by members, especially for those of us with no budget for things like this. Another may be to put out the word to other organizations like AHIMA, ANA, CMAC and ACMA to have them share it with their membership. Who knows, it could even turn into a recruiting tool.

One thought around timing may be to align it with the ACDIS conference so that presentations can be made there as part of the celebration. Of course, that would mean the logistics of scheduling the conference during the same week each year, but that could be a good thing so people would know when it will be each year and can plan for it well ahead of time.

    Just my two cents.

How about more like a Clinical Documenation Team week and include the coders, physicians and anyone else involved in the success of a CDI program? It might be a good way to promote team effots. Any thoughts? Nay or Yeh?

I agree it should include everyone involved in the CDI program, no matter their role. I'd hate to leave my coders out. I wouldn't know what I'd do without them!

Agree! I now have coding under me and they were asking about a Clinical Doc week, since they used to have this with Health Information Mgt Week....

    Robert,

I like your two cents! I agree having it around ACDIS conference time makes sense.
