RE: [MARKETING] Queries
HI
Our CDI staff are responsible for all concurrent queries. We also f/u on all queries that are not answered concurrently - CDI staff place a post discharge query.
Our coding staff query on all charts that were not reviewed by CDI.
In the past CDI staff were responsible for all queries. If a coder felt a post dc query was necessary - they would forward the chart to CDI. If we did not believe a query was necessary we would return the chart to the coder with an explanation. Handling all post dc queries consumed too much of our time - we were spending more time at our desks than on the floors. Coders now handle their own queries.

1/2) The CDI Staff are responsible for all concurrent Queries and the Coder/Coding Manager are responsible for Retro-Queries.3) NA*If a patient is discharged with an open CDI Query it is then the coder's responsibility to determine if they feel an additional retro-query is needed. I would like to expand the CDI specialist's role into post discharge follow up with those unanswered queries. However, I am currently the only CDI specialist at my hospital so there's just no time! Maybe someday :)Greta
