hospice and mortality rate
Anyone that can help me out with a friends question.....
Just wondering if you all know how I can find out the timeframe on an
Inpatient Status needs to be changed to Hospice Status ? I need to know
, doing a data report and I have searched all over - even went to the
CMS website .. I know if you convert in a certain amount of days it
doesn't go against your Death Mortality Rate . If you wait at a longer
period then it shows as a higher mortality for your Facility . Thought
you might know where I can get this information .

Comments
Here we discharge our patients from the inpatient status and readmit them to hospice in order to provide accurate measurement. We do not convert an inpatient to hospice.
We do however use the palliative care or comfort care code V66.7 when the MD indicates this is the appropriate step for this patient. I was under the impression, the V66.7 had to show up in one of the first 9 codes on your coding summary to have this removed from your mortality calculation.
Anyone else ?
Thanks
