Influenza A

If I have a diagnosis of Influenza A and I am looking for my DRG in 3M, I come to a screen with "due to avian virus(Bird/A/H1N1)", etc. Do I choose the "due to avian virus," another choice or other/unspecified (assumes respiratory)? I am coming up with DRG 193-195 or DRG 152-153. Which is correct, or am I on the wrong track. Does A correlate to avian? Our Influenza A screen is not specific - looks like it tests for multiple H1N1, H3N2, etc viruses.
Thank you for any information. I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

    Hello Donna,
The MD needs to specify if this is related to the avian virus.
Most of our cases are coding to DRG 193-195 or DRG 152-153 based on the respiratory manifestations.
    I hope this helps.

  • We have been guided to use 487.1 for Influenza A if it is simply the flu with no respiratory manifestations.
