ICD10 testing

Looking for some feedback on ICD10 Facility Testing. Anyone have particular criteria they are using to choose patients for testing? We are using top DRG and certain diagnosis but also looking for other criteria others are using, if anyone can help. dwilk@gshleb.org

Add top procedures to your list. For the coders at our facility we are focusing on top procedures performed. The diagnosis coding does not appear as challenging as the procedure coding in ICD-10. We are reviewing documentation in reports and assigning codes (CM & PCS) focusing on correct root procedures and documentation of body parts. Flash cards from AHIMA are in every CDI & Coders possession. Yes there are documentation challenges in CM but these are handled by CDI in specialty department meetings.

  • Hi,

What are the flash cards? Is this something purchased from AHIMA?

    Thanks,
    Ann
  • I would like to know about the flash cards also. Where to get them and how much? Are they helpful?

    Thanks,

AHIMA website. Cheap $ 8-10 per pack depending whether you are a member. Cards for PCS* & CM. Small & easy to transport. I have my students (I teach ICD-10 at community college) use them in class.

  • Thanks. I will look them up. I work at the hospital. Do I need both sets?

I do not know if they will help everyone. One member of my staff got the electronic version loaded on her IPAD. She uses the app. I am old stilling wondering around looking for pencil sharpeners, carbon paper & rotary phones, so I like the cards. Others probably throw them in a drawer and never use them since the descriptions are so good in the PCS books & appendix A. It is a handy reference that fits in a pocket easier than carrying a book or an IPAD. Everyone learns differently the PCS cards work for me. The CM cards I will admit I reviewed once and have not picked up much since.
