I fully agree with Robert's & Karen's comments below.


One of the things that we learned when we noted a high 'unable to determine' response rate ... and talked to a fair number of attendings ... the physician's didn't have the same understanding of the term as we did. They assumed that the question would be forwarded to the specialist because they were not certain (and they had consulted the specialist), or since they were the discharging and not admitting physician etc. ... as well as the flat out 'do not have the clinical information to answer'.


Won't help with cases in the past, but making sure to have your physician advisor explore the meaning of the term for that attending, and frankly asking the attending if they'd prefer the query be presented to the appropriate specialist IF ALREADY involved with the case would seem like appropriate steps to include.
