Querying for Acute Blood Loss Anemia with Post Partum Hemorrhage

edited April 2016 in CDI Talk Archive
I am new to post-partum charts. Would you query for acute blood loss anemia for a post-partum hemorrhage? The patient was transfused for the hemorrhage. I don't see any exclusions when I group the diagnoses, however I am concerned with the possibility of "double-dipping."

Thank you for your help.

    Sarah,

Although not an expert on the subject, I would say you are not double
dipping but accurately reflecting the Severity of Illness for this patient.
It was always my understanding that the post-partum period was part of the
whole maternity package (Pre, Delivery and Post). I am anxious to see others
input as I would like to learn more about this as well.

Thanks for reaching out to the group,
