The best work list

It seems that we all have to work efficiently to try to cover our population with the staffing we have, so I was wondering from all you mentors, how do you generate your worklist? We are printing a worklist by unit, we do medicare plus all payers that are admitted to a cardiologist or have a cardiovascular consult.

I recently spoke with another documentation specialist who said before their coders went off site they used to assign admission DRGs and there was a report that could be generated by DRG.

So, what method are you using to try to maximize your efforts?

Thanks!

We have a computer-generated list, available at 0600 each day for the previous day. It lists all admissions and the insurance code (and other info). We copy/paste into our worklists and tracking sheets. We review all Medicare,HMO Medicare,Tricare,Medicaid,100% of ICU patients.

We use both a census from LaserArc which gives us the daily census of MCare, BCross and T'Care patients hospital-wide and we use our M'care list from our CDI software pertinent to our own assignments.

  • Our census is sent to our printer every morning. New admits, pts transferred to a higher level of care and queries are our first priority. We review medicare and on medicare managed care plan at this time.

We have a report of daily admissions ran from Softmed. We are able to run
the report from previous days, so we can have a list of charts that we are
following also. Then prioritize by DRG payors, quality reviews (premier),
wound care, then lastly private payors.

We have a software that generates a worklist now, but prior to July 1 of
this year we used an SQL report that IS set up for us that printed each
    6 AM.
