Electronic medical record

We have gone to an electronic medical record. We used to be upstairs putting queries in the charts and having face to face time with the physicians now everything is done via computer. We are concerned about not seeing the physicians on a routine basis. Does anyone have this same problem?

We are all electronic and submit queries electronically also. Our office is on a University Hospital campus not in the hospital. We shuttle to the hospital and round with the Physicians and query and educate as needed during that time.
It takes away from productivity but the face to face helps if we have to query electronically at other times.

  • We have a Regional System of facilities spread across portions of Northern California, and we can't be on-site at each site - we perform our reviews with EPIC, scheduling very strategic and personal presentations to select clinicians, seeking to address high-volume and problematic clinical topics causing documentation issues.

We use a blend of on-site reviewers and reviewers working remotely. I think this is a feasible approach due to staffing and travel issues and it is working well. Our response rate if 90% or higher at each site.

    Hello Deanna,
We were concerned over this at the onset of our EMR, however we found we received a faster and better response with electronic queries. To keep in touch with our physicians, we attend multi-disciplinary rounds in our ICUs and we make rounds on the units to keep the personal touch in place.
