Holiday coverage

Just wondering if your Departments are open the day after Thanksgiving. We followed PI which was off and now are being told since it is not a recognized holiday we need to have coverage.

Its my scheduled weekend to work so I will have that Friday off anyway. The other CDS will also take off that whole weekend. As for the Saturday and Sunday, I had originally asked for that weekend. So they may let us both have it off. If not at least I get Thurs.and Friday.

We do some weekend coverage, and usually work the Fri after Thanksgiving to prevent such a long gap in coverage.

Shhhh...besides, it is a nicer (quieter) day to work!

We at OHSU in Portland, Or are required to have coverage....not full staff but someone as it is not an "official" holiday for the HIM department.

  • We have to work the day after Thanksgiving - it is not a recognized paid holiday at our facility.

Closed here, but then, closed on Columbus Day and Veterans Day too.

  • Thanksgiving day is the only recognized holiday. Usually some of the CDI specialist will request Friday off - but department is not closed (some of us are here)

To clarify, I will be here the Friday after Thanksgiving unless the President declares it a federal holiday. In which case that Monday gets very long playing catch up. Personally, I'd rather be working.

  • I work as many holidays as they'll allow, including the majors. I like that the traffic is less, the hospital is quieter, and that I can save my days off to use when I'd actually like to be off. Since I'm salaried, they don't have to worry about overtime pay.
