Daily Meetings with Hospitalists

We are a new (1.5 yr old) program at a small rural hospital. I recently had a hospitalist tell me that at another hospital where he worked the "query ladies" ( I assume he meant CDI specialists) would make them a list of the documentation that they needed and give it to them every morning. The hospitalist said that he prefers this method because then he can just add the info into the chart and not have to answer so many queries. My questions to everyone are: 1) Has anyone ever used this method? 2) If so, was it helpful? 3) Would we be in danger of leading? I'm also concerned about the impact on our CDI program, as our CFO pays the most attention to the reports of the dollars generated from our queries. Any thoughts?

  • Thank you guys so much for your input. I believe he wanted a list saying something like, "we need acuity and type on this CHF." It is mostly my opinion though that this particular doc just doesn't want to have to answer queries. So instead of instituting his idea, I'm going to work one-on-one with him on improving his documentation so he doesn't have to be queried. I think it's pretty shady too, and I want to be able to use queries to show the results of my program. Thanks again for all of your help!
