interviewing for a new CDMP specialist

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions when hiring a new CDMP Specialist? Our boss will do an interview and then we will do our own interview as well. Any tips/questions to help us hire the best fit for our department would greatly be appreciated!! :-)

The qualities I look for when interviewing prospective nurses are med -surg experience (we require 5 years), energetic, motivated, good communication skills, self directed, team player, open to constructive feedback, and true interest in Clin Doc.

  • I bet he would!! The response didn't come up on my screen, wonder why?

  • One thing we have done is develop a couple of scenario's and ask the candidates to read the scenario's and then talk us through what they see. The scenario's describe the patients presentation, symptoms, lab values and treatments but did not include diagnosis' for all that was being treated. I have found it helpful to see how it is they read/interpret a physician's documentation. I have definitely seen a difference in what a critical care nurse picks up in the scenario's vs a nurse w/o critical care experience. We also have our candidates do a powerpoint presentation on a topic of their choosing. I think it is important the candidate be able to present in front of a group of people fairly comfortably. Also speaks to how much effort they put forward in preparing a presentation and preparing themselves for the presentation.
