Does anyone have any recommendations on resources for differentiating encephalopathy from delirium? It seems like many of the physicians resources that I review are using encephalopathy and delirium interchangeably. We are having alot of discussion re: this subject and of course, are seeing denials on this diagnosis. Auditors are citing that a MMS exam is not completed so that makes the dx of encephalopathy "not clinically valid". Also, when a patient is experiencing DT's (day 2 of DT's) is this encephalopathy? This also has been a topic of debate.
