CCS Test ?

Hello!

Does anyone know if you are allowed scratch paper during the CCS Exam?
Also, are you allowed access to a calculator for analyzing financial data, etc?

Thanks!
Greta

They provide paper. No calculator. Review candidate handbook on AHIMA site for specifics.

AND YOU can also write in your DRG book, or at least you could when I tested.

  • You can't bring a DRG book to the CCS exam, only an ICD-9 and a CPT book.

I wrote extensively in my books, though.

I believe you can bring a nursing drug book and the DRG expert that one has written in. That was my latest inquiry answer.

  • You cannot bring a scratch paper, only the material that is listed is allowed and they are VERY strict at the testing facilities. No cellphones, wallets, purses, etc. These have be put in a locker that is provided to you.

You will, however, be given a white board to write on, however I don't recall ever using it.

I took the CCS in November 2014, so things might have changed since then.

I took the CCS in June. Agree with Richard. You also can take a sweater for temperature control, but no hoodies. No jewelry except small stud earrings and wedding ring. No large hair clips. Cell phones have to be powered off in the waiting area and left in the locker. Everything goes in a basket and into a locker. There is a calculator on the computer that can be used.

  • The drug book and the DRG book are for the CCDS exam, not the CCS exam.
