shock bone marrow?

I have this documented:
Thrombocytopenia
Plan: Multifactorial, shock bone marrow, medication,chemo, sepsis
platelets still low despite transfusions.
will cont to transfuse of platelet count

  • I don't know for certain since I'm not seeing that chart, but especially since it's listed under the plan and not the diagnoses, could they be talking about using shock wave therapy on the bone marrow? It can be used to promote stromal cell growth in bone marrow.

    I believe the provider is commenting on the severely debilitated state of the bone marrow in this patient. It sounds like a query is in order for the provider's best guess as to what is causing the bone marrow suppression. We often discuss this vague kind of terminology face to face with the providers to learn more about the clinical picture of the patient. It not only educates us as CDS's and coders, but usually helps us find a codeable condition.
