RE: [EXTERNAL] RE: Dilutional Hyponatremia

Thank you to everyone who responded to this question. I tend to agree with those who felt it should not have been coded at all since it was not monitored and treated and stated as "dilutional".

But I also understand that since the resident made an actual diagnosis in the record of hyponatremia that a coder would feel they would need to code it and not feel the need to query for clinical significance.

Would a CDI really query a physician with a Na of 134 called "dilutional hyponatremia"? If so, please explain why.
