RE: RE:[EXTERNAL] RE: Dilutional Hyponatremia
Yes - I would query.
1. Best Practice 2012 states a query should be issued for a diagnosis rendered, but perhaps lacking clinical support
2. Dilutional anemia or hyponatremia indicate there is no intrinsic disease process within the patient causing the slightly abnormal lab finding, which appears not to meet the UHDDS Definition for a Reportable Condition. Coding is intended to report morbidity and mortality, and this is merely a well-known consequence of receiving fluid(s). In a pt w/ hyponatremia 2/2 to something such as SIADH, then one could make a case for coding the SIADH. I am reticent to code the minor and known consequences of IV fluid.
