One of our coder told us we had to have pathology(biopsy) to code excisional debridement. Is this right?

    How should this be coded? In op report states large abcess to planter lateral aspect of R foot. Necrotic tissue excised down. This was noted to go down to nearly the fascial layer. This area tracked medially, approx. 2 cm, with necrotic tissue. This was all excised out sharply. Wound vac applied. Is this an excisional debridment?
