CDS's working Remote

Hello All,

I am looking for anyone that has trialed CDSs working remotely. I work for a health system and one of my hospitals wants to trial working remotely. I am against it, but I would like to know if anyone has tried it. Also, would like others opinions on the subject.

Thanks, Susan

We haven't tried it. Now that we are largely electronic, technically possible......I personally feel that individual relationship building, the moments for conversation that are least inconvenient for the physician, the face to face contact, etc. are too valuable and significant.

Might be possible to consider having a rotating work from home (once a week for example) when peers could help with the hands on needs....

I agree. We have been discussing the possibility of working remotely, I
could see half days at home completing worksheets, creating worksheets
etc, but the need to have the face to face discussion with the providers
    is crucial.

What one hospital that is on Epic in our region does is the CDS's are set up at home but work at the facility most of the time. However, in inclement weather, they are able to work at home which is helpful for both hospital to have a productive employee and the individual who does not to use holiday or vacation time. Also, on occasion, if a personal appt might last 3 hours or so, the CDS can get in a full 8 hours at home. The flexibility is great and hopefully when our health system is all on Epic this can be our policy/procedure.
