procedures done while inpatient
So a PICC line placed by IR, the PICU attending or a nurse practitioner, while inpatient, is coded as a procedure. In our NICU some of the nurses are credentialed to place PICC lines and it is within their scope of practice. Our coders say they cannot code the procedure because they 'don't code procedures done by nurses'. it is identical in resources and equipment to one placed by IR/critical care/NP. Is this true everywhere? Just curious.
