specificity of CVA using MRI
2016 CDI POCKET GUIDE states; Once a CVA has been definitively diagnosed by a provider, coders may assign greater specificity based on other medical record sources such as imaging reports.
Coders in our hospital have stated that they can only use Radiology reports for specificity such as fracture locations. Does anyone have insight or other sources to support the use of MRI for specificity in coding CVA (vessel involved, etc.)?
