COPD and Pneumonia Sequencing Denials
Good Morning. We have received our first denial for a patient that had COPD and Pneumonia where we had the Pneumonia sequenced as PDX since the patient also developed chf exacerbation (mcc). This was a case that was coded before the 3rd Q CC that clarified that COPD, whether exacerbated or not, should be assigned first followed by the lower respiratory infection. We will be responding, but wonder if any of you that have used this sequencing prior to the CC clarification have gotten any denials, and if you responded, have you had any success in overturning the decision?
