Debridement
If the MD does not state excisional in the debridement process does it default to "nonexcisional" or are you just unable to code it? In I10 if you default to nonexcisional it sometimes gives you more reimbursement with the root word "extraction". This inappropriately takes you to a surgical DRG??? Often unrelated.

The whole default issue is covered in a Coding Clinic. 3rd Quarter of 2015 pages 7-8.
Basically, they say you must query for specificity as there is no default setting for excision. (sigh...)
