COMPLICATION FROM SURGERY PERFORMED AT ANOTHER FACILITY
I am wondering how to capture a surgical wound complication. The patient presented with an abscess at the incisional site of a back surgery. It developed 10 days after a procedure done at another facility. The facility does not do emergent surgerys and this required debridement of the area due to neurological changes. Does this get reported as a complication code that was present on admit ? Does this jeapordize the complications reported for our facility? Advice and any coding clinic or reference material is appreciated!

yes. If clearly documented, the complication code would be POA-Y and Pdx. It shouldn't impact your quality reporting because it is POA-Y.
