Complex Partial Seizure secondary to recurrent CVA's
A patient is admitted for complex partial seizures and has a known history of a CVA. the patient has a MRI which states acute/subacute CVA. The discharge diagnosis is Complex Partial Seizure and Subacute CVA. the coder queried the physician for the cause of the complex partial seizure, to which the physician stated was a late effect of recurrent CVA's. How would you code this, and what would be your PDX?
I coded the subacute CVA as the PDX followed by other sequelae of cerebral infarction and other convulsions. However, our physician wants to know why it was not coded with complex partial Seizure as the PDX. Does anyone know of supporting documentation I can provide our physician?
