May ACDIS journal Remote CDI question

Hello I have a question for Rebecca R. Willcutt, RN, BSN, CCDS,CCS, director of the CDI program at CUHC. or anyone who has experience with the CCS exam. In the May journal article she requests her CDI obtain the CCS credential in a year. I am wondering how they might qualify? I am a CDI BSN CCDS and joined AHIMA to try to do this and it seems like there is a lot of course work required prior to qualifying as an RN CDI? after 25 years of bedside nursing I really do not want to pay for a medical terminology class. thanks VJ

  • For brand new dedicated coders, the recommendation is generally that you code full time for 2 years prior to taking the test.

It is not an easy exam to pass.  It may be easier now that it is computerized and multiple choice (as opposed to on paper and fill in the blank when I took it).  I suggest you find some CCS certified staff and pick their brain.  As you likely have seen from the AHIMA resources, there are no shortcuts.
