meditech 5.64

Does anyone use meditech 5.64 and if so do you have any way to leave notes for the physicians electronically on the patients in the meditech system? I am trying to come up with some better way to leave questions for the physicians and thought this may be an option. Thanks in advance.

    Tara,

I also have Meditech 5.64. I use a message system that was developed for nursing to communicate with the physicians and is a part of my status board. I have found it has been much more effective than other methods I have tried in the past. They are signaled on their patient lists with an envelope under the patient's room number. They click on the envelope, then on the message to be viewed on the following screen which opens up the message. They can reply to my message so that I know that they have viewed it but it is not a part of the medical record so I ask that they put their answers in their documentation. Let me know if you need further details.

    Thank you,
    Lisa
  • That sounds like something what we are interested in doing. We will need to check with our IS dept to see how we can get that set up. If the physician rounding changes would the new physician see the envelope by the patient name or would it only show up for the doctor it was addressed to(our HIMS doctors change about every 2 days?
Thank you very much for responding.

Unfortunately it only goes to the physician that it is address to but you can address it to multiple physicians and/or forward it to a new physician if need be. Our hospitalists are usually here on a week to week basis but occassionally this changes.

We also have Meditech 5.64. At the moment we are told that anything in the
message system is part of the permanent medical record, and our facility
does not want any mention of a concurrent query or clarification in the
record. It is something that we are dealing with, and may continue to deal
with for a while. Ultimately, our docs do not have to pick up the physical
chart, and we need to take advantage of anything like this in the system.
    Good luck to you.

I don't know for sure if it is. I believe I got this system with an
upgrade to 5.63 or 5.64. You will need to check with your IT department.
