Job sharing

Hi,

I am curious if any programs have had staff who have job shared a position and if so what were the pro's and con's of this?

  • Hi Cindy, in our CDI program at Emory in Atlanta, we have one FTE that is shared. Each person works a 20 hours part time (benefited) position. They worked out their schedule and they chose to work 5 on and 5 off. They communicate via email or phone if they have any "reporting off" to do at the end of their week or if they have questions based on work the other one did the previous week. They usually cover for each other when one is out.There are all pro and no cons. I was able to keep two very good employees who either wanted or needed to reduce from full time to part time, they are very satisfied and productive workers, and they are entirely part of the team. Since they cover for each other, I not have to find PRN replacement when one is out. I happily promote job share and good luck with your decision! Bonnie
