If the provider is only documenting flu, are we able to use the influenza lab test results to code a specified type if the results are positive for flu A or B?
I don't believe so. (Other ACDIS members can correct me if I am wrong.)
I think a query to ask provider if he/she can "further specify the flu diagnosis in light of lab finding: Flu A per mini RPP" (for example) would be needed in order to capture the appropriate/more specific J10._ code Influenza due to _ versus the J11._ unspecified Influenza code.
I think if you read the ICD 10 Official Coding Guidelines under Section C-Chapter Specific coding guidelines-chapter 10, c:Influenza due to certain identified influenza viruses you should be able to find your answer.
