outpatient status for comfort care
Our coders are lately seeing an increase in pts being admitted with outpatient status with diagnoses of "comfort care" as principal diagnosis. The pt stays in that status for as long as it takes to expire. Are any of you seeing that? We are working on getting inpatient hospice but have not completed that process. The coding clinics are not very helpful with this kind of patient.
