Coder productivity

Couple questions that I have for all of you:
1. Are there specific coders designated for CDI program @ your facility or are all coders involved?
2. If you do have designated coders for CDI only what is their expected productivity for a day?
Thanks for your input

All the inpatient coders work with our program.
The coders do have certain productivity standards. I do not know what that is.

All coders are involved in the CDI program as far as DRG reconciliation, reviews and some follow through on unanswered CDI queries post DC.
The CDI staff is separate from the coding staff though.
Coding staff does have productivity criteria which I believe is in the 2-3 records/productive coding hour range.

We do not have coders designated for CDI however, as CDI we start the coding while the patient is in-house. We try in our followup reviews to continue adding codes that will change the DRG or specify the diagnoses further.

At this time we do not have "productivity standards" we just do all we can do in 8 hours! I strive for 20-25 reviews a day whether they be admissions or followups. For example, if I have 10 admissions I review those and then try to get 10-15 followups done. If I run out of things to do (HAH!) there are mismatches to be reconciled and queries to be entered into spreadsheets.

Our coders are separate from CDI at this time. They focus on discharges only. Their productivity is 25 charts a day. They are on a point system for longer LOS charts.

We are trying to work on a followup procedure. Do we review charts everday? Every 48 hours? Every 3 days? What about a surgical chart vs. a medical chart? Cardiac chart?

I would be interested in that information.
