Concurrent query responses are ideal, but what is best practice for hold timeframes on open queries after discharge? Should they be dropped and rebilled once an answer is received or should they hold and remain on DNFB until complete?

    HIM departments have agreements with Executives to final bill cases within X of days after discharge; exceptions allowed for queries and incomplete charting.  Most Revenue Teams do not wish to rebill due to the process entailed, and are willing to hold for select cases.

      Your HIM/Revenue Team should be able to clarify a policy re: DNFB and bill holds.
