outpatient improvements

Our CDI program is interested in capturing documentation improvements in the outpatient setting. Is anyone out there providing this service at their facility? Not sure where to start....we have improved some processes at our Cancer center, but not sure how to get started in the ER or O.R.?? Looking for suggestions.

Thanks Mandi

Are you talking about the HCC codes, is that what's it's called? I think that Kaiser is doing that here in California, but not positive.

  • I've been asked to do that here too, but it's too big a job for one person to take on. Especially if concurrent inpatient reviews are to be done too. What I do assist with analysis is of E/M leveling since that has the greatest impact on our reimbursement. Coders do most of the work though and do internal peer reviews.

I would be interested in what your process is for analyzing e/m levels.
