DTI that opens
Wondering how others are applying the new DTI code and the accompanying guideline (also considering previous coding clinic advice for coding progressing pressure ulcers): For pressure-induced deep tissue damage or deep tissue pressure injury, assign only the appropriate code for pressure-induced deep tissue damage (L89.--6).
Patient came in with DTI from being down. DTI subsequently opened, and was documented as "DTI, progressed to unstageable pressure ulcer".
Question--code only the DTI, POA, or code both DTI POA and "pressure ulcer unstageable", not POA? (resulting in PSI). We have written to AHA for clarification, but in the meantime, wondering what others are doing.
