Coding COVID-19 with "suspected COVID" plus a positive test
Good morning. We are currently engaged in a discussion with our coding department regarding the interpretation of the new guidelines. Coding is comfortable using documentation of "suspected, probable or likely COVID 19" plus a positive test result to code the condition. Our CDI team believes (after reviewing HCPro guidance) that we would still need to query to confirm in this instance. We are hoping this may become less of an issue when the wait time for results is lessened but for now we are wanting to be sure we are compliant with the letter and the spirit of the guidelines. Any thoughts will be welcome and appreciated.
