CDI job title change

Hi all,

I would really appreciate some opinions/guidance related to my situation.  I work in a small rural hospital as a CDI specialist.  During my career here, I started as a cdi specialist (one man show), promoted to cdi supervisor, then promoted to HIM manager.  Covid-19 has hit our hospital hard, and the CDI specialist hired to take my place when I moved up changed positions in the hospital.  I have taken a step back to cover CDI for an unknown period of time, while maintaining some of my previous duties (Joint commission prep, heading up audit committee, maintaining the physician deficiency process, and running the CDI program- all metrics, etc).  I am essentially performing all of the duties of a CDI manager as far as I can tell with extra stuff.  My boss just approached me about a title change to reflect my current duties.  Does anyone have suggestions?   CDI Manager feels odd, I will officially have no staff.  But stepping back to CDI supervisor feels like a failure (vain, I know.  But it's how I feel right now).

    My boss agreed on CDI Manager.  My boss and I reviewed and realized my additional duties most assuredly fell outside the normal realm of CDI specialist or even Supervisor.  She was ok with the Manager title.


    Thanks for asking!  It felt like a real crisis when the change occurred, and I had no timely feedback or comment here.  I looked up job descriptions for each (thank goodness for ACDIS).  It was very helpful.
