Cathether Associated Infection
I need help with coding this statement:
"Urine MRSA +, but pt asymtomatic and VSS, likely colonization from Chronic Cath"
How would this statement be coded?
Thanks in advance,
Shelly

I would have to query....is this a Chronic UTI r/t urinary catheter?
Colonization does not mean infection. Does the patient have any symptoms of a UTI? (Dysuria, flank pain, fever, elevated WBC)
How is the being treated?
As it stands, this is not a diagnosis one would code at all - there is no documentation of a UTI.

Good point! Asymptomatic and noted colonization via cath reflects a lack of clinical indicators to query and likely the clinicians approach to ruling out UTI.
I agree, no cath associated infection.
Thank you very much,
Shelly
