Drains
A patient was admitted for a post op infection and Seroma from back surgery. Patient was taken back to surgery and had a I&D done , two hemovacs were placed. An audit was done and CDI was told that during surgery if a drain (hemovac, penrose, or JP) is placed its part of the surgery and should not be coded. I would love some clarification regarding this. I can't find anything regarding this. Thanks, Allison
