Immunocompromised state
If a patient is on an immunosuppressant medication, can we assume immunocompromised or does the doctor have to state the patient is immunocompromised in order to be able to code it? Trying to see if we should query on these. Thanks

I would think that the Provider needs to document it to code it. This topic has come up for us also, I am wondering how this qualifies as a reportable diagnosis? If it is not evaluated, worked up, monitored during the stay. Does it increase the length of stay or utilize nursing resources? Maybe if a patient is in a negative air flow room? Or requiring additional isolation precautions due to the immunosuppression? Just seems very unclear to me!
