Scheduling for CDI staff members

Some of our CDI staff are interesed in working 4 days/week, 10 hr shifts. Currently they work Mon-Fri. They are permitted to flex their time but must be here five days per week. The rationale is the need for visibility and opportunities to talk with physicians.
I'd be interestesd to hear about any alternative work schedules being used (10 hr shifts, weekend coverage, challenges of implementation, etc).
Thank you,
Kelly

Look under the Helpful Resources Tab on the ACDIS site. One of the featured articles might be of interest "Alternative staff schedules offer CDI opportunities" link: http://www.hcpro.com/HOM-254990/Alternative staff schedules offer CDI opportunities

It was also in the July 2010 ACDIS Journal.

The ACDIS poll has also asked several questions about weekend coverage, etc. Off the top of my head, don't remember much in CDITalk.

  • We work Monday thru Friday - we can flex time. I did develop a schedule for 4 day work week however it was not received well.
We do not cover weekend, but if we want to take off a day and not use our time we can work a day on the weekend to make up our time. I like coming in occasionally on the weekend. It's quiet and I can get my charts.
