persistent atrial fibrillation

Persistent atrial fibrillation-the patient is admitted in regular rate cardiac rhythm and is documented to be on medication that controls the heart rate such as Toprol with a diagnosis of persistent atrial fibrillation, do you go with the diagnosis as persistent or do you query the MD since patient is not currently having an irregular heart rhythm since it is controlled by the medication?
