How Long PE is an active Diagnosis
Hello,
how long does Pulmonary embolism is considered as active Diagnosis? Typical treatment is 3-6 months depending on complexity.
One of recent denial. Patient diagnosed with Pulmonary embolism 2months ago, started on anticoagulation. Comes back, now has Atrial Fibrillation has CHADS score needing anticoagulation. CTA shows no PE this time. provider documents NO PE but will continue anticoagulation for Afib.
Insurance company now says that since no PE noted in CTA, this cannt be considered as active Dx. Normally we dont do CTA or VQ to check if pE is resolved.
