Coding: Immunodeficiency due to alcohol

Hello,

I am looking for guidance on how to code Immunodeficiency due to alcohol.

There are many scholarly medical articles supporting this occurrence but not a lot of guidance as to which code is most appropriate for this condition.

I believe the choices are:

D84.81 Immunodeficiency due to conditions classified elsewhere

  • I am hesitant to place it here as the immunodeficiency is due to the alcohol and not necessarily the dependence or the chronic binge drinking

D84.821 Immunodeficiency due to drugs

D84.822 Immunodeficiency due to external causes

D84.89 Other immunodeficiencies

D84.9 Immunodeficiency, unspecified
