Chronic Respiratory Failure
Chronic Resp Failure- Is my understanding correct that in order to meet criteria for Chronic Resp Failure, the patient has to be on oxygen 24 hours a day/7 days a week?
My providers feel that the pt meets criteria for Chronic Resp Failure if they are on oxygen at night , or on inhalers, or on prn for activity- as they have a chronic problem with their resp system due to COPD, CHF, ILD etc.
Is it appropriate for them to document, Chronic Resp Failure w/ hypoxemai and/or hypercapnia when they are not on oxygen 24/7?
