Retrospective Code Changes
Good morning,
Hi all!
If there is a CDI/Coding mismatch after final coding, even if it is just subsequent information, do we, as CDIs, go back into our original coding after discharge and change our codes to match the final coding of the coder? Or do we just note the mismatch from the coding we did when we were in the system concurrently? Can we go back in retrospectively and change our codes, even if we agree with subsequent information, if it wasn't done previously with our reviews during the admission?
Thanks for your help!

I would check with your leadership first to see if there is any policy on this. Upon reconciliation of the chart, we review what the coders code and will add ones we don’t have once we validate them from the record. Like wise, if we find ones that are not validated and shouldn’t be on the claim-we notify coding to remove/rebill.
